Brett Thompson has spent his lifetime working on the land as a shearer and farmer for more than 10 years before making a change in 2006 and purchasing a pub in Mudgee. Thompson worked the pub and combined being a Publican with training horses in 2009.

Starting out with four boxes it wasn’t long before Thompson was being offered to take on more horses and although not having trained for that long Thompson has achieved good success for a country trainer and built a respected reputation in the region.

Thompson’s most successful horse was Hewentwoosh who was purchased for $4500 and went on to win $240,000 in prizemoney and in 2011/12 Thompson was crowned Western Racing Association Premier Trainer.

Last season the Brett Thompson stable trained 56 winners and so far this season has produced the winners of 34 races, with the latest winner being Serious Moonlight at Gulgong on June 11.

The most successful rider for the stable in the past year has been Jake Pracey-Holmes followed by Leanne G Henry.
